He is widely recognized for his expertise in the federal prison system, having spent years writing about and advocating for reforms to federal incarceration policy.

Christopher Zoukis is a nationally recognized authority on the policies that govern federal incarceration — including Bureau of Prisons designation, sentence computation, prison discipline, the Residential Drug Abuse Program, the First Step Act, and reentry. These are the practical questions that shape what a federal sentence actually looks like, and his work has made that subject more accessible to defendants, families, and practitioners.

Books and Advocacy

Christopher Zoukis is the author of multiple books on the federal prison system, written as practical guides for people navigating federal incarceration and their families. These include the Federal Criminal Defendant’s Handbook, the Directory of Federal Prisons, the Federal Prison Handbook, and others.

He also serves as Chairman of the Board of the Human Rights Defense Center, an organization devoted to protecting the rights of people held in detention and correctional facilities.
